AT&T and Smart Meter expand connected healthcare reach with Global SIM Advanced

AT&T and Smart Meter are expanding their collaboration aimed at helping healthcare providers maintain connectivity for remote patient monitoring devices in more locations across the United States.

As healthcare organisations increasingly rely on connected technologies to support patients managing chronic conditions outside traditional care settings, consistent connectivity remains essential to delivering timely health insights. Through AT&T Global SIM Advanced (GSA), Smart Meter can help support uninterrupted device connectivity by enabling eligible devices to access additional approved network profiles when needed, helping patients and providers stay connected even in areas where a single network may not provide optimal coverage.

Smart Meter is a provider of cellular-enabled remote patient monitoring (RPM), helping healthcare organisations remotely track key health indicators such as glucose levels, blood pressure, weight and oxygen saturation. The company’s connected devices are designed to simplify the patient experience by transmitting data automatically, eliminating the need for Bluetooth pairing or smartphone setup that can create barriers for some users.

Introduced by AT&T in 2025, Global SIM Advanced is a multi-profile eSIM solution designed to support resilient global IoT connectivity. Powered by an advanced connectivity management platform, GSA enables eligible connected devices to manage multiple network profiles and switch between approved networks when necessary, helping maintain connectivity while simplifying device management.

“As healthcare providers continue expanding remote patient monitoring programs, connectivity plays a critical role in ensuring patients can stay connected to the care they need,” said Lani Ingram, VP of connected solutions at AT&T. “Global SIM Advanced helps extend the reach of connected healthcare solutions by providing the flexibility organisations need to support patients across more locations.”

The expanded relationship builds on years of collaboration between AT&T and Smart Meter. Together, the companies have helped support remote patient monitoring programmes through cellular-enabled devices that automatically transmit patient data to healthcare providers. The addition of Global SIM Advanced represents the next step in helping healthcare organisations reach patients in more locations, including rural and underserved communities, where reliable connectivity can play an important role in care delivery.

“Remote patient monitoring only works when patients can easily use the technology and healthcare providers can reliably access the data they need,” said Casey Pittock, Smart Meter CEO. “By combining Smart Meter’s cellular-enabled remote patient monitoring devices with AT&T Global SIM Advanced, we’re extending the reach of connected care that includes our private data network, 3-tiered platform, world-class logistics, and patient engagement services to support better experiences for patients and providers alike.”

Remote patient monitoring has become an increasingly important tool for managing chronic conditions and supporting ageing-in-place initiatives. By helping healthcare providers maintain visibility into patient health data between visits, connected monitoring solutions can contribute to more proactive care and improved patient engagement. AT&T continuously looks for new ways to address customers’ evolving connectivity needs, and Global SIM Advanced is another example of that commitment. Smart Meter is incorporating GSA into its connectivity strategy to help support reliable device connectivity in hard-to-reach areas.

The collaboration will support continued growth in connected healthcare while helping healthcare organisations simplify device deployment, improve patient accessibility and maintain reliable access to critical health information.
