PHY Wireless, a developer of edge-based cellular positioning technology for massive IoT and next-generation 5GSA & 6G wireless networks, and Ubiik, a provider of private LTE and 5G networking solutions, have announced a collaboration to deliver an integrated communications and positioning platform designed for enterprise, industrial, utility, healthcare and campus environments.
The combined solution brings together Ubiik’s private LTE/5G infrastructure with PHY Wireless’ hellaPHY positioning technology, enabling organisations to deploy a single platform for both wireless communications and highly accurate location services. The offering provides real-time visibility of assets, equipment, vehicles and personnel while creating a foundation for emerging Physical AI and sensing applications.
As enterprises increasingly look to connect the physical and digital worlds, demand is growing for location-aware systems that can support automation, operational intelligence and AI-driven decision making. Accurate positioning is becoming a foundational capability for next-generation industrial and enterprise applications.
Traditional GPS and Wi-Fi-based location systems often struggle in warehouses, containers, manufacturing facilities and other complex environments while consuming significant power. PHY Wireless’s edge-based approach is designed to overcome these limitations by enabling more location updates, lower power consumption and greater operational visibility.
Unlike conventional positioning approaches that depend on cloud-based processing, PHY Wireless calculates location directly on the device. This edge-based architecture enables autonomous location awareness, allowing devices to intelligently determine when location updates are required while reducing network traffic, bandwidth usage, data costs and power consumption. The result is a more scalable, cost-effective and privacy-preserving approach to location intelligence across industrial and enterprise environments.
Built on standards-based LTE and 5G infrastructure, the combined solution enables organisations to use existing wireless investments while adding location intelligence without deploying separate positioning networks.
As organisations pursue Physical AI, industrial automation and real-time asset visibility, many are forced to deploy costly proprietary positioning systems, specialised infrastructure and power-intensive location technologies. These approaches often increase deployment complexity while limiting scalability across large enterprise and industrial environments.
Rather than requiring proprietary positioning networks or specialised location infrastructure, the PHY Wireless and Ubiik solution uses existing private LTE and 5G deployments to deliver location intelligence as part of the communications network itself. This approach reduces deployment costs, simplifies operations and provides a 3GPP standards-based alternative to proprietary location architectures.
“Organisations pursuing Physical AI and industrial automation need location technologies that can scale economically across thousands of devices,” said Tom Horgan, the CEO of PHY Wireless. “Location awareness is becoming a foundational capability for next-generation enterprise and industrial applications. Together with Ubiik, we’re enabling organisations to leverage existing LTE and 5G infrastructure to support real-time asset visibility, workforce safety, operational intelligence and emerging Physical AI applications at scale.”
“This joint development with PHY Wireless is a good demonstration of how Ubiik’s flexible pLTE platform can be customised to incorporate cutting-edge technology which supports evolving customer use cases,” said TH Peng, CEO of Ubiik. “The development of a unified platform for high-precision geolocation services has been an excellent result from our partnership with PHY Wireless.”
Key benefits include:
- Unified private LTE/5G communications and positioning platform
- Meter-level location accuracy suitable for enterprise and industrial environments
- Lower deployment and operational costs compared to traditional high-precision positioning systems
- Low-power architecture that can reduce device power consumption by up to 10x versus alternative approaches
- Support for asset tracking, workforce safety, inventory management, logistics and operational intelligence applications
- Future-ready architecture aligned with emerging 5G Advanced, eRedCap and 6G sensing standards
The collaboration reflects growing industry demand for scalable positioning technologies that can support the next generation of Physical AI, autonomous operations, asset tracking, workforce safety and industrial sensing applications without requiring costly new infrastructure investments.
