Telenor IoT launches “IoT Drive”, a service for the growing needs of the software-defined car

Telenor IoT, a global contributor in IoT connectivity, has announced the launch of IoT Drive, a purpose-built solution designed to meet the evolving needs of the automotive industry. IoT Drive delivers ultra-reliable, regulatory-compliant connectivity, empowering automakers to overcome the growing connectivity challenges of the software-defined vehicle era.

As vehicles become increasingly connected and software-driven, automakers face a complex landscape. Managing global connectivity, meeting regulatory requirements, and delivering seamless infotainment experiences are just a few of the hurdles. At the same time, consumer expectations are rising, and car brands must deliver consistent, high-quality digital experiences to stay competitive.

Recognising these demands, Telenor IoT established a dedicated automotive team in March 2025. While the company is already known for its reliable global connectivity and operational excellence, powered by AI and data transparency, with 24/7 expert support across industries, it is now expanding its product portfolio to meet the growing and specialised needs of automotive customers needing world-class IoT operations and platform capabilities.

IoT Drive is a new automotive IoT service built on the premium Managed Connectivity service and enhanced by Consumer Connect, an in-car connectivity platform, thus addressing both the business, technical and regulatory complexities of in-car connectivity. Consumer Connect enables automakers to offer Wi-Fi, premium digital services, and data packages to end-users through API-based integration, ensuring a consistent brand experience across all touchpoints.

The solution supports both OEM-sponsored connectivity models and marketplace-driven approaches, giving automakers the flexibility to meet diverse business and consumer needs.

Commenting on the announcement, Mats Lundquist, the CEO of Telenor Connexion and the head of Telenor IoT, says: “Together with leading automotive brands we were pioneers within IoT, and we understand the unique challenges they face. The creation of our dedicated automotive unit—and now the launch of IoT Drive—reflects our deep commitment to supporting both our existing customers and the future of mobility. Our success is tied to our customers’ success, which is why delivering reliable, expert-driven solutions is at the heart of everything we do.”
